About MATH 1234 B

Introduction to calculus of functions of one variable including: limits, continuity, techniques and applications of differentiation and integration. Credit not given for more than one course in the pair MATH 1212, MATH 1234 unless followed by MATH 1248 or MATH 1242. No credit following receipt of credit for MATH 1248 or above. Prerequisite: C- or better in MATH 1034 or a score of 76 or higher on the placement assessment.

Section Description

MATH 1234 is an introduction to the calculus of functions of one variable. This will include an understanding of the concepts of limits, continuity, the definition of the derivative, and the Fundamental Theorem of Calculus; techniques and applications of differentiation; basic integration, including integration by substitution; and applications of integration including area and volume.

Section Expectation

This class is lecture based. The purpose of the lecture is for the instructor to present theory and demonstrate computational and graphical examples. Students will apply what they learn in class, on the homework, and will show what they have learned on quizzes and exams. Students will need to purchase a WebAssign/Cengage eBook and online homework system.

Evaluation

There will be 4 in-class exams, approximately 8 in-class quizzes, nearly daily homework assignments via WebAssign, and one in-class final.
