Notes

Section Description

As a continuation of SPAN 140, in which students have been familiarized with major writers from the Spanish-speaking world and have learned to analyze literary texts, SPAN 144 Spain: Monarchy to Democracy continues to develop a deeper understanding of literature in its cultural and historical contexts. Canonical authors will be revisited; however, throughout the semester readings in this course will offer a broader spectrum of texts dealing with questions concerning race, gender and sexuality. As a 100-level course, improving communicative language skills in the target language will be of paramount importance. To this end it will be required to give formal and informal presentations, form part of a discursive community in class, and write analytical essays.

Section Expectation
