Section Description

This course introduces students to architecture and landscape architecture through a sequence of specific design projects. The projects include designing a piece of public furniture, a parklet, a public park, and a building. Students learn about design process, how to approach a design challenge both creatively and strategically, consider the social and environmental context, and communicate their designs.

Class time involves a mix of presentations, studio design, desk crits, and student presentations.

Most students use and improve proficiency in Sketchup, which is available on the lab computers, but alternative design tools will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Students must be proficient enough to keep up with assignments and to communicate their design concepts using appropriate conventions.
