Section Description
こんにちは!Welcome! This class is an in-person class! We meet on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays in person. On Tuesdays, you will usually have assignments such as working on kanji character writing and listening to dialogues. We do not meet on Tuesdays either in person or online. This course is a continuation of Japanese 2100, the aim of which is to provide you with the fundamental language skills of listening, speaking, reading, and writing with a solid understanding of the basic structure of the language and its cultural and social context. It is highly interactive, and you will be encouraged to work with your classmates in and out of class to practice what you have learned. Lessons 17-21 of Genki II will be covered in this class. Learning Objectives At the end of the course, you should be able to use Japanese to: - Kanji Read, write, and identify 77 new kanji characters - Grammar Lesson 17 1) Give hearsay report (そうです) 2) Quote what you have heard casually (って) 3) Express conditional dependence (たら) 4) Describe what you do not need to do (なくてもいいです) 5) Express resemblance (みたいです) 6) Describe events before something happens (前に/てから) Lesson 18 1) Explain Transitivity Pairs (開けるvs開く) 2) Describe doing something completely and unfortunate result (てしまう) 3) Explain cause and effect (と) 4) Describe two actions taking place at the same time (ながら) 5) Express regret (ばよかったです) Lesson 19 1) Honorific Verbs 2) Giving respectful advice 3) Refer action you are grateful for (てありがとう) 4) Describe gladness (てよかったです) 5) Express expectation that something is supposed to be the case (はずです) Lesson 20 1) Extra-modest Expressions 2) Humble Expressions 3) Make a phrase using “without doing something” (ないで) 4) Questions within larger sentences 5) Give a specific name using (という) 6) Describe something is “easy-to-do” and “hard-to-do” (やすい/にくい) Lesson 21 1) Give Passive Sentences 2) Describe current state that has been brought about on purpose (てある) 3) Create a phrase using “during” and “while” (間に) 4) Describe “to make” using adjective + する 5) Express wishes that someone does something (てほしい) - Dialogues, Videos, Reading, Listening, Speaking, & Writing Interpret each lesson’s dialogues, reading passages, and listening comprehension exercises. Incorporate what you learned in each lesson in speaking. Write sentences using the grammar points and kanji introduced in each lesson.
