About CDAE 2590 A

Under supervision of an attorney, students respond to real-world phone, online, and mail requests for consumer information and handle consumer complaints to connect consumers with appropriate and effective resources, professionals, and protections. Sponsored with the Vermont Attorney General's Office. Prerequisite: CDAE 2570 or Instructor permission.

Section Description

Under the supervision of an attorney, students respond to real-world phone and written requests for consumer information and handle consumer complaints. Students connect citizens with appropriate and effective resources, professionals, and protections. Sponsored with the Vermont Attorney General's Office. Professional Communication and Resume Building Experience: -real-world phone and written communication skills -communicating with consumers and businesses -empathetic listening and communication skills -information and resource development with state, local and non profit organizations -analytical, mediation, and case management skills -understanding of consumer policies and laws -work with a lawyer and a professional team -professional networking within government and the Attorney General's Office -mentored professional goal setting and progress meetings

Section Expectation

Through your experience with the Vermont Attorney General's Consumer Assistance Program, you will engage in service-learning as a public service professional. In our fun, open office environment, you will learn key entry level professional skills while providing service to Vermonters. Through hands-on applied experience you will understand the innerworkings of government, all while expanding your consumer protection knowledge base. The course combines a weekly lecture (Mondays) and six hours per week of service learning within the CAP office.
