Notes

Prereq: CDAE 2020 Open to Degree and PACE students

Section Description

This course examines national economic systems with an emphasis on the United States. Topics include gross national product, business cycles, employment and prices, recession and inflation, fiscal and monetary policy, and the rudiments of international trade. Emphasis will be placed on the role of modern macroeconomics in community and international development, environmental protection, and social equity.

Section Expectation

Students are expected to keep up with all readings, come to class prepared to discuss them, and learn to apply basic macroeconomic theory to real-world applications. In addition, I encourage students to critique the standard macroeconomic model and explore alternative frameworks. By the end of the semester, I expect students will be able to apply macroeconomic theory to a range of modern societal challenges.

Evaluation

Students will be assessed with in-class exercises, weekly assignments, exams and in-class participation.
