Section Description

This course examines migration and the Global South, paying attention to migration patterns in Africa, Asia, Europe, North America, and South America. The course pays attention to topics such as the role of states in governing migration, interdependence between states, migrant rights, and the economic and political impacts of migration.

Evaluation

Attendance and class participation 10% Class discussion facilitation (10% *2) 20% Students will facilitate class discussion in pairs, using prepared reading summaries and discussion questions for the group. Each student will facilitate twice during the semester. Two essay projects (35% * 2) 70% Students will complete two essay, each of which comprises 35% of the grade. The first essay is due in the middle of the semester, and the second one is due towards the end of the semester. Students will work on their essay projects in close consultation with the professor. Each essay project is comprised of smaller, scaffolded assignments, including a research question (5%), annotated bibliography (10%), and final draft (20%).
