Section Description

This course focuses on the study and implementation of curriculum in elementary school art education. Students will work directly in an elementary classroom, gaining practical experience and insights into teaching art to young learners. The course includes lectures, discussions, and hands-on activities related to art

Section Expectation

Topics Covered:

Developing age-appropriate art curriculum
Lesson planning and instructional strategies
Classroom management techniques
Integrating art across other subject areas
Engaging students in creative expression
Exploring various art media and techniques
Practicum Experience: Students will have the opportunity to observe and participate in real-world elementary art classrooms 3hrs a week for 10 weeks. This practicum provides valuable hands-on experience, allowing students to apply theoretical knowledge to practical teaching situations. Additionally, students will learn about the role of museums in art education through a collaboration with the Fleming Museum at UVM.

By the end of this course, students will be better prepared to teach art in elementary schools and contribute positively to the creative development of young students.
