About PSYS 2012 A
Tools to conduct basic statistical tests in psychology and to aid in developing statistical reasoning skills. Efforts will be made to explore statistics in context, using examples from a variety of domains in the field, including developmental, social, cognitive, and clinical psychology. Credit not awarded for both PSYS 2012 and PSYS 2010. Prerequisites: PSYS 1400.

Section Description
The major purposes of this course are to provide you with the tools to conduct basic statistical tests in psychology and to aid in developing statistical reasoning skills. Efforts will be made to explore statistics in context, across a variety of domains in the field, including developmental, social, biobehavioral/neuroscience, and clinical psychology. Selected departmental learning goals that most pertain to this course include: (1) operationalizing theories to predict (and interpret) empirical findings in psychology; (2) identifying strengths and limitations of research designs; and (3) effective use of technical terminology (especially as relates to statistical analysis).
Section Expectation
Attend lecture twice per week; participate in in-class practice problems and statistics demonstrations, expect to spend time on homework and practice problems outside of class to master the material.
Evaluation
Grades are based on four exams (three in-class exams plus a cumulative final exam), as well as weekly readings and homework assignments.
