Topics vary by offering; periodic offering at intervals that may exceed four years. Prerequisite: ARTS 1010, ARTS 1011, ARTS 1014, ARTS 1100, or ARTS 1400.

Prereqs enforced by the system: ARTS 1010 or ARTS 1011 or ARTS 1014 or 1100 or 1400; SART, ARTH, ARTE majors only during the first week of registration; CAS SART, ARTH, RDS minors only for the following 3 days; Non-CAS minors for the following 2 days; then all restrictions will be removed; Minimum sophomore standing PACE students by permission and override Course fee: $85
Section Description
This studio art course provides instruction in PHOTOGRAPHY, PERFORMANCE, AND INSTALLATION. To situate oneself as a creative using PHOTOGRAPHY, PERFORMANCE, AND INSTALLATION, we will study and discuss the work of contemporary artists working in PHOTOGRAPHY, PERFORMANCE, AND INSTALLATION. Participants will learn actively in this class via hands-on creation. There will be demos, lectures, field trips, guests, and studio time. Most assignments will be studio-based and will require time outside of class to complete. We will also have in-class critiques of each other’s work, and discuss relevant written, creative, and scholarly works.
Section Expectation
Students will interpret photographic, performance and installation concepts and apply photographic, performance and installation methods to create artworks, emphasizing creative and critical engagement. They will assess and evaluate the work of their peers through both written and verbal critique and will discuss and write about contemporary art.
Evaluation
Course evaluation will be based on attendance and participation, assignments, and final portfolio. It is expected that students will demonstrate serious creative effort in devising projects, that there is aesthetic and intellectual innovation and technical accomplishment. Class participation, collegiality and work ethic will also factor into students' overall success in the course.
