Section Description
To be able to draw is to be able to see. Drawing is one of the most direct ways to communicate an idea. It is also a way to become free from them and to find new paths. This course provides beginning instruction in drawing with graphite and charcoal through the visual elements of art: Line, value, shape, form, mass, and texture. Subject matter from nature and still life is included. Basic skills are developed, such as eye-hand coordination and sighting techniques. The emphasis is on learning how to depict illusionistic space through the use of light logic and one- and two-point perspective, value, and personal style. At the end of the class, you will have a final project that encompasses all that we have learned. Includes presentations and discussions of historical and contemporary examples of a wide range of drawings. Through mark making, erasure, and collage, it can outline a beginning of a project or the finalization of one. Precision and freedom. Successful students will use class time and outside of class time wisely, participate in the discussions and critiques, submit work on time, work on feedback, be proactive, be present, and communicate. ~ A quote from Dieter Roth “If you can’t draw something, draw it”. ~
