Section Description
The course offers a comprehensive overview of the rich archaeological record of the American Southwest, beginning with the colonization of the New World at the end of the Pleistocene Epoch, and ending with European contact in the sixteenth century. The course explores major themes and debates in Southwest prehistory within a wider anthropological perspective. All readings are provided with a recommended (but not required) textbook.

Evaluation
Students will be evaluated on the basis of short quizzes, written assignments, and participation in both in-class and online discussions. Students can choose from two possible tracks, each with different combinations of assigned work.
