The basis of inheritance, covering topics from classical genetics to modern molecular studies. Analysis of genetic data emphasized, from prokaryotic, animal, and plant systems. Credit not awarded for both BCOR 2300 and ASCI 2160. Prerequisites: BCOR 1400, BIOL 1400, or BIOL 1000; BCOR 1450, BIOL 1450, BIOL 1005, or BCOR 1425; CHEM 1100, CHEM 1400, CHEM 1405, or CHEM 1410.

Section Description
By invitation; for First-time First Year students with AP Biology scores of 5. The goals of this course are to develop a deeper understanding of the major concepts in genetics, learn how to apply these concepts to solve problems, and to develop a capacity to think critically about real-world issues related to genetics. The course covers topics from classical genetics to modern molecular studies. Analysis of genetic data is emphasized, from prokaryotic, animal, and plant systems.
Section Expectation
This course combines three weekly lectures in a medium-capacity lecture hall with active learning and engagement expected, and one weekly small group discussion (i.e., recitation) involving group and individual work. Students should expect to spend 2-4 hours per week on coursework outside of class, with additional time for exam preparation.
Evaluation
Three midterm exams and one final exam, weekly homework, clicker questions in class, and recitation section assignments.
