Section Description

Native plant interns help support UVM’s Native Plant Initiative by sourcing locally adapted, ecotypic seed for native plant production with UVM’s Greenhouse. Interns will help locate native perennial plant populations, ethically collect seeds, process and clean fruits to create a seed bank, prepare seeds for germination in the spring semester, and contribute to a seed collection guide. Interns may also assist with existing community-engaged projects with local partners and plan for future projects. Interns gain valuable experience with real-world, civic applications of nature-based solutions and transferable skills. Prerequisites: PBIO 2090 or instructor permission. Please email Laura.Hill@uvm.edu for more information.

Section Expectation

Student interns must commit to meet weekly for 1 hour and dedicate 2-3 hours to project work and demonstration of learning per week. Students will be expected to work as part of a team with their fellow interns, showing respect to each other through constructive communication and by staying on top of assigned commitments to allow the group to work effectively. Interns will also be expected to attend weekly meetings with the faculty supervisor, as well as to complete weekly discussion posts detailing their progress.

Evaluation

Evaluation will be based upon attendance of and participation in weekly group meetings, completion of weekly journal entries, and quality of the overall final project—the output of the internship.
