Section Description

PBIO 3991 Ethnobotany internship offers students an opportunity to engage with the dynamic and interdisciplinary field of ethnobotany. In doing so, students are also able to work on a range of practical skills that may be of use in their future careers. In fall 2025, students in the internship will be focusing on mythical plants. Through history, many plants have been written about in stories, legends, and myths, but their identity is sometimes lost with time. Students will have the opportunity to work with a faculty mentor to collect information about such plants and to work together to write an article to be published in an academic journal. Not only will students get the chance to improve their data management, teamwork, writing, and scientific communication skills, but they will also have a chance to have their names on a published ethnobotanical article that they can list on their CV and show to potential employers.

Section Expectation

Students will be expected to work as part of a team with their fellow interns, showing respect to each other through constructive communication and by staying on top of assigned commitments to allow the group to work effectively. Interns will also be expected to attend weekly meetings with the faculty supervisor, as well as to complete weekly journal entries detailing their progress.

Evaluation

Evaluation will be based upon attendance of and participation in weekly group meetings, completion of weekly journal entries, and quality of the overall final project—the output of the internship.
