About ENGL 2740 B

In this workshop for experienced writers, students pursue projects of their own design, in various creative nonfiction sub-genres, including personal essay, literary memoir, and/or literary journalism. May be repeated once for credit. Prerequisites: ENGL 1700, ENGL 1702, ENGL 1705, ENGL 1730, or ENGL 1740; minimum Sophomore standing.

Section Description

Writing Creative Nonfiction is an intermediate-level workshop focused on the reading and writing of various forms of cnf, including memoir, personal essay, lyric essay, creative criticism, literary journalism, and works that resist easy classification. Students study models, write multiples exercises, and draft and revise two or three complete pieces for a final portfolio.

Section Expectation

Daily readings and discussions; writing responses and craft-focused exercises; two or three complete cnf pieces; workshopping; peer critique and feedback; substantial revision for a final portfolio.

Evaluation

Grade is based on participation and a final portfolio of writing.
