Section Description
A fall semester Internship at the UVM Morgan Horse Farm will provide students with equine management skills, with specific emphasis on the daily herd management, development of young horse handling skills, and early training techniques. Interns take part in the daily operation of the Morgan Horse Farm from feeding and stall cleaning to learning about training and handling of young horses. Credits can range from 1-6 credits. Student will select a project topic relevant to the UVM Morgan Horse Farm. The scope of the project will be appropriate for the number of internship credits taken.
Section Expectation
Students are responsible for transportation to the UVM Morgan Horse Farm in Weybridge, VT. For every credit hour, student is expected to be on site for 2 hours/week during week days (M-F). Morning or afternoon hours can be accommodated based on student schedule. Student is expected to actively participate as part of the UVM Morgan Horse Farm team. Student will communicate weekly with the internship faculty advisor by submitting a Weekly Reflections to indicate skills learned and desired areas for development. The Internship project will be culminated in a final oral presentation submitted to the internship faculty advisor and presented to the UVM Morgan Horse Farm staff at the end of the semester.
Evaluation
The internship is Pass/Fail. Students will be evaluated based on attendance (25%), active participation (50%), communication with internship faculty advisor (20%), and internship project (5%).
