Section Description
The primary goal of this course is to help students refine their ability to perform quantitative analysis to support a wide range of business decisions. This course surveys fundamental quantitative methods for business decision making, including optimization (e.g., linear, non-linear, and integer programming), and Monte Carlo simulation. Throughout the course, the students will explore how such methods and tools can be applied to a wide range of problems from different areas such as Operations, Finance, Marketing, and Supply Chain Management. Examples of such problems include production planning, resource allocation, advertising strategy, financial planning, to name a few. Finally, this course will help the students develop their skills in formulating, solving, and analyzing realistic models as well as communicating model outputs and insights in plain language. The format of this course will mostly consist of a combination of lectures, in-class problems and computer exercises, and case discussions. Note that students are required to bring a fully operational laptop (with the required software) to class when requested.
Evaluation
Grades are based on class participation, homework assignments, case analyses, class presentations, written examinations, and a final project.
