Involves students in policy research for the Vermont State Legislature on a wide range of topics, including the environment, health, and welfare. Prerequisite: Instructor permission.

Section Description

The Vermont Legislative Research Service (VLRS) engages students in non-partisan policy research for Vermont state legislators. Students from all majors and minors work in research teams under the supervision of Professor Anthony Gierzynski (Director of the VLRS) and Professor "Doc" Bradley (Deputy Director of the VLRS) to produce policy reports in response to questions submitted by Vermont State Legislators. In order to participate in the VLRS in 2025, students must have junior standing or higher in the fall of this year. You can apply for a spot in the VLRS using the following link https://qualtrics.uvm.edu/jfe/form/SV_82PGenZgvQj4EXY to get permission to enroll in POLS4310, "The Vermont Legislative Research Service." Students are chosen for the VLRS based on their academic record.

Section Expectation

Students will work in teams to produce high quality policy research for the Vermont Legislature.

Evaluation

Based on team policy papers and tests and participation during training sessions.
