MMG 3310 A (CRN: 92863)
Micr & Molecular Genetics: Survey Bioinformatic Databases
3 Credit Hours
About MMG 3310 A
Provides a broad overview of bioinformatics as applied to biomedical research. Topics include data mining, DNA sequence alignment, genetic variation, study design for high-throughput sequencing (HTS), and transcriptomics. Emphasizes a direct, hands-on experience and interacting with software, as opposed to creating software. Credit not awarded for both MMG 3310 and MMG 5310. Prerequisite: MMG 2040 or BCOR 2300; Instructor permission.
Notes

Section Description
The introductory course is designed to provide students with a comprehensive foundational understanding of bioinformatics. The curriculum places a significant emphasis on the utilization and interpretation of biological sequence data including DNA, RNA, and proteins, sourced from a diverse array of bioinformatics databases. Additional topics covered include data mining, DNA sequence alignment, genetic variation, next-generation sequencing (NGS), and transcriptomics. Approximately 75% of class is dedicated to lectures and the remaining 25% is allocated for hands-on, coding-based activities.
