About MU 2770 A

Students will score short films using digital audio software. Emphasis is on 4-5 scoring projects, with additional background reading and written critiques. Prerequisites: MU 1770.

Section Description

This is an experiential course, with a focus on hands-on application of the techniques, technology, and ideas discussed in class and encountered in the readings. The prerequisites for MU 2770 are MU 1310 Music Theory Fundamentals and MU 1770 Intro to Music Technology. This course fulfills the CAS Fine Arts distribution requirement.

Section Expectation

Students will analyze the role of music and sound in movies and other video genres through study of videos and readings, create music in a software environment, using Apple Logic Pro, gain fluency with Logic as a tool for creating music and soundscapes, learn to work with video in the Logic environment, and mix multiple soundtracks (music and Foley). Depending on time, opportunity, and student interest, we may also collaborate with student directors in Film and Television Studies for the final project and record live audio (spoken or musical) for inclusion in MU 2770 projects.
