Section Description
Directed projects which explore the elements and principles of communication design. Design research, process, experimentation, and production in hand-based and computer-generated design application for multi-modal presentation. Design studio practices will be explored through lecture, analysis, discussion, and research components. Focus is given to development of compositional strategy; applying the principles of design while employing major elements; image, typography, color, and time to introduce theory and develop communication design content.
Section Expectation
This course is a studio-based class - including short lectures, design demos and discussion. Required materials for this course are a subscription to the Adobe Suite. Recommended prerequisite: CDAE 1150, Visual Communication
Evaluation
Grades are based on attendance, hands-on exercises in various Adobe applications, participation in design critiques, and four final projects including a symbolic portrait, placed-based typography design, infographic design and a printed food poster.
