About ASCI 3480 A
Students work through medical and surgical cases from chief complaint to treatment, prognosis and prevention. Diagnostic techniques and treatment options prioritized. Hands-on opportunities include physical, orthopedic, and neurologic exams, as well as field trips to local equine facilities and the UVM Morgan Horse Farm. Prerequisite: ASCI 2480.

Section Description
Equine-interested students work through medical and surgical cases from chief complaint to treatment, prognosis and prevention. Diagnostic techniques and treatment options prioritized. Hands-on skills include physical, orthopedic, and neurologic exams, as well as venipuncture and wound handling.
Section Expectation
Course Objectives: 1. Gain experience working through and presenting equine cases from chief complaint to the development of problem lists, differential diagnoses, and diagnostic and treatment plans. 2. Develop medical record keeping skills using the SOAP format. 3. Develop hands-on equine skills, including examinations, diagnostic techniques, wound management, and pasture assessment. 4. Create an equine disease synopsis to be archived for future students.
