About NURS 3220 A

Provides a comprehensive foundation in pathophysiology. The phenomena that result in dysfunction in human physiologic response will be examined. Credit not awarded for both NURS 3220 and GRNS 5130. Prerequisites: Minimum Junior or Graduate standing; ANPS 1190, ANPS 1200, MMG 1650. Co-requisite: PRNU 3228; Nursing students only.

Section Description

This course is designed to provide the student with a comprehensive foundation in pathophysiology. The phenomena that result in dysfunction in human physiologic response will be examined within a holistic context across the lifespan. An understanding of the basic concepts underlying common pathways in disease is emphasized.

Section Expectation

Course Objectives: Upon completion of this course the student will be able to: 1. Discuss selected concepts and theories of pathophysiology 2. Describe adaptive and compensatory physiologic mechanisms. 3. Correlate the presentation of selected symptoms of illness to alterations in cellular, tissue and organ function. 4. Integrate the etiology, pathophysiology, signs and symptoms, and clinical rational for treatment of selected illness states across the lifespan. 5. Describe the dynamic features of the illness-wellness context from a holistic perspective.
