About MU 1770 A
Introductory overview of music technology. Study of acoustic physics, history of music technology, basic hardware set up, computerized music notation, Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) electronic music production, and music video creation. Prerequisite: MU 1310 or Instructor permission.

Topics include elementary acoustics and physics of sound, history of music technology, digitization of audio, MIDI, computer music engraving, principles of recording, studio setup and the digital audio workstation. MU 1310, Music Theory Fundamentals, is the prerequisite for MU 1770 (this course) which in turn is the perquisite for MU 2771, Studio Production I.
Section Expectation
There will be regular lectures, followed by short response, discussion, or exploration assignments. Assignments will include response forms and hands-on projects in audio/video production/editing and computer music notation. There will be a midterm exam on principles of acoustics, audio, and MIDI. There is no final exam. Students are expected to attend all classes.
Evaluation
Students will be evaluated based on assignments, one exam and projects. Timely completion is important, all submissions must be on time to receive full credit. Principles of sound 25% Midterm exam 15% Logic projects 30% Sibelius projects 20% Discussion on Yellowdig 10%
