An introduction to all aspects of contemporary standard Russian: speaking, listening, reading, writing. Cultural components include topics such as music, art, literature, and current events. No previous knowledge of Russian needed for RUSS 1100.

Section Description
This is an introductory course to Russian language and culture. It assumes no previous knowledge or study of the language; if you have studied or spoken Russian before, even if it wasn’t for very long, speak with or email me to arrange a placement conference. In this course you will be developing the ability to communicate, which includes: comprehending spoken Russian; hearing, reading, and understanding the story of four American students abroad; reading authentic Russian texts and websites; speaking and writing Russian; and understanding salient aspects of Russian culture and everyday life. After completing this course, you will have been introduced to the fundamentals of the Russian grammatical system.
