About GRNS 6110 Z4

Faculty guide students in clinical settings to maximize exposure to all aspects of the nursing process with children having selected pathophysiological problems. Prerequisite: GRNS 5320. Pre/co-requisites: GRNS 6070, GRNS 6140, GRNS 6150.

Section Description

Pediatric clinical experience at UVMMC Children's Hospital including rotations on the acute ward and in the outpatient pediatric settings.

COURSE OBJECTIVES
Upon completion of this course, the learner will be able to:
1. Provide safe, effective, and culturally appropriate nursing care to the hospitalized child and family.
2. Develop, implement, and evaluate nursing care plans for children from infancy to adolescence that reflect knowledge from coursework and current research literature related to the nursing care of children.
3. Collaborate with other health-care providers and the family to promote coordinated service delivery.
4. Communicate effectively with the child, family, and others who participate in the care and education of the child and family.
5. Apply the ANA Standards of Clinical Nursing Practice to nursing care of children and adolescents and their families.

Section Expectation

Students will provide pediatric care on Baird 5, shadow alongside pediatric outpatient nurses, and participate in simulation lab activities on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays for a total of 84 hours.
