Section Description
Trauma-informed and resilience-focused initiatives often focus on “fixing and addressing” the challenging behaviors of students who have trauma-related symptoms, but rarely acknowledge that structural inequity itself causes trauma. Further, human service agencies and schools often heighten inequities when implementing trauma-informed practices that do not also identify and attempt to improve structural systems. Interprofessional and family collaboration is a critical component for addressing trauma, building resilience, and transforming inequities. This course focuses on how to build healing strength-based schools, organizations, and family-professional partnerships. We take a family, school and inter-professional collaborative approach to understanding and enhancing equity and well-being for children, youth, families, and the workforce. In-service and pre-service students from across professions (child welfare, health/mental, education) will build toolkit of strategies for healthy partnerships that build resilience and strong professional practices. Part 1 of the coursework will focus on personal strengths, strength-based teaming, and healing organizations which are essential for part 2, meaningful family professional partnerships. This course is a required course in several of the Resiliency-based Certificate programs.
