Statewide population-focused public health nursing experience involving needs assessment, program development, case management, health promotion, disease prevention, and protection strategies, with opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration. Co-requisite: GRNS 6140.

Section Description

This course focuses on population health and community partnerships. Students will examine communities and provide care to a defined population in collaboration with professionals in a variety of settings. Additionally, students will visit community sites that affect population health. This is a service-learning course. Service-learning is a structured learning experience that combines community service with preparation and reflection.

Section Expectation

Practicum Seminar meetings will be held in person. Completion of course assignments will utilize collaborative learning in small groups. Instructional Platform: Brightspace Course Topics, Assignments and Required Readings will be posted in Brightspace. A class schedule will be available in Brightspace, as well as weekly course materials folders for topics, assignments, and required readings.

Evaluation

Passing this course will be based on attendance and participation, completion of assignments, including a final health promotion project focused on public health.
