Section Description

SPAN 1100 is a 4-credit first course in a two-semester sequence of beginning Spanish. It is designed for students with little to no previous experience with Spanish. The course emphasizes speaking, listening, reading, writing, vocabulary, grammar, pronunciation, and culture. This is an online asynchronous course, meaning that there are no required meeting days/times. All work, both oral and written, will be completed via Brightspace and the VHL Supersite. At the end of this class, students will be able to communicate in basic Spanish in a realistic and culturally appropriate manner. Students should spend about 8 hours a week preparing assignments and studying for quizzes and the final exam. SPAN 1100 fulfills the GC2 Developing Global Citizens requirement. Within three months before enrolling in a foreign language class at UVM, students need to take the online language placement test (even if they haven't studied the language) and enroll in the course level recommended. For more information, see: go.uvm.edu/flp.
