Section Description
The focus of the course is the financial function in the corporation. We discuss the valuation of resources and proposed resource acquisitions or dispositions by answering two basic questions: (1) what should a firm invest in, and (2) how should the firm raise money. The course develops techniques to answer these questions from the finance perspective. These techniques include: calculating cash flow, determining the value of cash flows (time value), valuing equity and debt, and understanding the relationship between risk and return.
Section Expectation
At the end of this course, among other things, students should be able to: 1. Forecast after-tax cash flows for a firm. 2. Calculate the values of cash flows across time. 3. Calculate returns and riskiness of returns for various assets. 4. Assess the value of potential investment projects, and make correct decisions on whether or not to proceed with the investment.
