Section Description
A close reading of several film adaptations of Stephen King's fiction constitutes the best course offered at UVM, just ask any of many course alumni that have taken this class over the years. Course open to all UVM students and fans who grew up with many of these movies; no film experience is necessary to take and enjoy this class. Films likely to be studied include: CARRIE, THE SHINING, The SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, APT PUPIL, MISERY, DOLORES CLAIBORNE, and IT.
Section Expectation
An interactive experience with lectures and class discussion. Students will be required to watch the films on the syllabus and to do outside readings connected to the movies under discussion each week. Daily attendance required.
Evaluation
A 4-page midterm close analysis of a 2 minute close analysis of a representative 2 minute scene from one of the film's studied in class. A final, take home examination, cumulative.
