About ALE 2610 A02

Biological, chemical, and physical properties of the dynamic soil system as related to plant growth and environmental problems. Prerequisite: Inorganic chemistry or permission.

Section Description

This class teaches fundamental principles of soil science and introduces current topics in soil science. The class combines lectures, on-line learning, and field and lab exercises to deepen students understanding of soils. This class is useful to anybody with interests in environmental science, agriculture and land use planning. The class will also introduce some on-line Soil Science technology. The class is taken concurrently with one of four soils lab.

Section Expectation

Students are expected to complete a final group project conducted during lab sessions. Other expectations are that students participate in some on-line discussions, and be engaged in soil field and lab exercises.

Evaluation

Evaluation will be by three exams, participation in on-line discussions and keeping a lab blog that documents soil learning with images, data interpretations and reflections...
