Develop an understanding of research that describes affects and effects of arts experiences on health outcomes and wellness for individuals and groups in healthcare institutions, and in community settings. Explore how the arts a/effect your own wellbeing. No prerequisites. No art skills needed, just an appreciation for the arts.

Section Expectation

Students will be expected to study arts experiences by engaging in individual and group arts activities in and out of class, completing readings and viewings, participating in verbal and written group discussions, reviewing research findings, and presenting and discussing findings. Per University policy regarding work required for a three-credit hour course, a minimum of six hours a week of work is expected outside of class.

Evaluation is based on research projects, leading an experiential art session, discussions and annotations on readings, viewings, and arts experiences, and attendance. Research projects will include analyzing and explaining current research, describing an example of arts supporting health from current or historical cultures, and developing and evaluating an individual end of semester “self research project”. Assignment evaluation criteria will be outlined on Brightspace throughout the term.
