Selected topics in the literature of Italy. Readings and discussion of representational work in English translation. No knowledge of Italian is necessary. May repeat for credit with different content. Topics vary by offering; periodic offering at intervals that may exceed four years.

Section Description
Italian Food Culture examines the history of food in Italy through literary and critical texts dating from the thirteenth to the twenty-first century—including such classics as Dante, Boccaccio, and Goldoni, and lesser-studied authors such as Castelvetro and Degli Arienti. The course is taught in English and no knowledge of Italian is expected; it fulfills category B of the Italian Studies Major and Minor requirements, as well as the Literature requirement of the College of Arts and Sciences. PLEASE NOTE: You may NOT receive credit for this class if you have already taken ITAL 125, Italian Food Culture
Section Expectation
The class will be run as a seminar so it is imperative that you come to class having done all the readings and homework and prepared to discuss them.
Evaluation
Class grade will be determined by class participation, written homework, and in-class exams and presentations.
