About GRK 1100 A
Fundamentals of fifth-century Attic (Athenian) Greek, in preparation for reading great works of Thucydides, Aeschylus, Sophocles, Euripides, Aristophanes, Lysias, Plato, Aristotle, Demosthenes, Homer, Herodotus, Sappho, Pindar, New Testament, and more.

Section Description
This course is the first semester of a two semester introduction to ancient Greek. Spoken throughout the ancient Mediterranean, Greek remains an important language for accessing the ancient texts and cultures of people living not only in Greece but also Turkey and Italy. Students will be introduced to the grammar, syntax, and vocabulary of Attic Greek spoken by the 5th century BCE Athenians. Classes will consist of lectures, activities, and short introductions to ancient Greek culture.
Section Expectation
In addition to the regular meeting times on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, students are required to enroll in one of the labs. Students will review materials and receive homework assistance in the weekly labs. Students should expect to spend approximately eight hours a week on coursework per university policy regarding work required for a four credit course, with additional time for tests.
Evaluation
Regular quizzes and three tests.
