A seminar that addresses a medical issue from molecule to market. By the end of the seminar, students will understand and appreciate the full range of translational science. A theme is selected and announced each year.

Synchronous online; Open to degree and PACE students

Section Description

We examine how clinical translational science permeates the study of health-related sciences and their implementation, whether on the cellular or the societal perspective, or anywhere in between. This year, we will be focusing on the how the changing climate affects health in a variety of ways that we can examine from a translational science perspective.

Section Expectation

Attend all classes, either synchronously or asynchronously. Participate actively in class conversations either as part of synchronous classes or by video taping yourself in 15 minute conversations with others about the weekly topic. If needed, participate in follow up Discussion Board conversations with the instructor. Complete readings prior to class. Post readings for three of the scheduled classes one week ahead of time. Develop a research topic, a research paper outline with references, and a final research paper to be submitted on specified dates throughout the semester.

Evaluation

Class participation in each scheduled class; student reading posts for three classes; completion of research paper assignments including topic, outline with references, and final paper on schedule.
