Statistical process control; Shewhart, cusum and other control charts; process capability studies. Total Quality Management. Acceptance, continuous, sequential sampling. Process design and improvement. Case studies. Prerequisite: STAT 1410, STAT 2430, or STAT 3210.

Section Description

This is a 3 credit hour lecture course covering an introduction to the theory and methods for quality control and improvement, as well as some of the many applications used in business and industry. Commonly used frameworks of application, such as DMAIC, Six-sigma, and LEAN Six-sigma are introduced.

Prerequisites: STAT 1410, STAT 2430, or STAT 3210 Required Textbooks What is Lean Six Sigma?, (2012) by Mike George, Dave Rowlands, & Bill Kastle. Can be purchased on Amazon here: https://www.amazon.com/Michael-George-Rowlands-Kastle-2012-09-26/dp/B015YMB200 Also Introduction to Statistical Quality Control by Douglas Montgomery, Wiley 7th Ed. There will be approximately 11 homework assignments. Most of the homework will be problems in the textbook or similar, some will consist of short journal entries based on guest speakers. Also, one homework assignment requires you to read and article with a partner and present it to the class. There will be three exams.
