About MATH 2055 A
Emphasizing proofs, fundamental mathematical concepts and techniques are investigated within the context of number theory and other topics. Prerequisite: MATH 1234 or MATH 1242. Credit not given for more than one of MATH 2055 and CS 1640.

Section Description
Math 2055 is an introduction to fundamental mathematical concepts and proof techniques. The goal is to provide a firm foundation to continue in higher level mathematics courses. While not always required, this course is a recommended prerequisite for all advanced mathematics courses.
Section Expectation
This course combines lecture and discussion formats as well as computer experiments. Students should expect to spend 6-8 hours a week on coursework outside of class, with additional time for take-home quizzes.
Evaluation
Evaluation will be based on frequent quizzes (approximately weekly), each of which will measure one to three course objectives. Course objectives will be graded independently of each other on a four point scale. To earn a grade of B or better in the course, a student should achieve proficiency (3/4) in at least 90% of all course objectives.
