Section Description

The course is designed to give an introduction to the ideas and philosophies of coaching. This takes into consideration the perspectives of coaching recreationally, amongst all age levels from youth to adult, and as a career and profession. Following the biweekly modules of this course, the student will experience a variety of knowledge in the field of coaching and learn many important components to guide them to understanding the success in coaching. The student will look into the whole world of coaching, including team management, community communication, league rules and guidelines, safety precautions, and even the officiating perspective. This will also encourage the student to think about their own style of coaching and the direction they may want to take it in. The course will include a variety of teaching tools, including assigned readings, quizzes, powerpoint presentations, discussion postings, article reviews, essay papers, and reflections. Topics that will be covered include foundations of coaching, team management and discipline procedures, leadership principles, coaching strategies, community involvement, and overall philosophy.
