Section Description
こんにちは Kon'nichiwa! This course is a continuation of Elementary Japanese II, the aim of which is to provide you with the fundamental language skills of listening, speaking, reading, and writing with a solid understanding of the basic structure of the language and its cultural/social context. It is highly interactive and you will be encouraged to work with your classmates in and out of class to practice what you have learned. Lessons 11-16 of Genki I & II textbooks will be covered in class. Textbook and Workbook: 3rd Edition of Genki: An Integrated Course in Elementary Japanese. Section Expectation
At the end of the course, you should be able to use Japanese to: -Read, write, and identify 94 new kanji characters Lesson 11 -Express desires (たい) -Combine verbs (たり~たりする) and nouns (や) -Talk about past experiences (ことがある) Lesson 12 -Express excessiveness (すぎる) and reasons (ので). -Explain necessity to do something (なければいけません) -Give explanations (んです) and suggestions (ほうがいいです), and predictions (でしょう) Lesson 13 -Describe abilities (-れる) and reasons (し) -Express guesses on basis of impressions (そうです) and the idea of trying something (てみる) -State contracts and limitations (なら) and frequency of events (に#かい) Lesson 14 -Express desires (ほしい) and possibility (かもしれません) -Explain giving and receiving (あげる、くれる、もらう) -Convey advice (たらどうですか) and emphasis (も・しか) Lesson 15 -Invite someone casually (-う) -Describe an action performed in preparation for something (ておく) -Use sentences to qualify nouns Lesson 16 -Request humbly (ていただけませんか) -Share your hope for something nice to happen (といい) -Use the word 時(とき) to describe when something happens or happened -Apologize using te-form verb (てすみませんでした) There will be quizzes on vocabulary and kanji for each lesson. There will also be written tests and individual speaking tests.
