Section Description

This course is designed to provide participating students with an introduction to Military Physical Fitness training per Army Training Circular 3-22.20, Physical Fitness Training. The course will challenge students on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings with at least 45 minutes of physical training. Classes will take place outside except when prohibited due to weather.

Section Expectation

Students will be assigned to a cadet squad and will work-out with that squad throughout the semester. The cadet squad leader will report your attendance and participation to the instructor. Cadets will lead the workouts and demonstrate exercises prior to execution. Students are encouraged to review reference materials to gain a deeper understanding of the exercises. Students may take an Army Combat Fitness Test in order to gauge physical improvement over the semester. This test includes six events which may be found at this link: https://www.army.mil/acft/. There may also be at least one off-site class taking place at the obstacle course at Camp Johnson.

Evaluation

As a final project, each student will create a written fitness plan for the following semester. The basis of the plan will include at least two goals for physical improvement. Examples may be “Improve my two-mile run time by 45 seconds” or “Increase the number of pushups that I can complete in 2 minutes by 10 repetitions.” Goals do not have to be related to Army Combat Fitness Test events. Students will then lay out fitness plans for the spring semester aimed at achieving those goals. Plans will include at least two workouts per week. This project will be worth 10% of the overall course grade.
