Section Description

Continuation of SPAN 1100. Fundamentals of Spanish composition, comprehension, pronunciation, speaking, reading, and writing in a cultural context. Classes are conducted in Spanish and students engage in active use of the language. Cannot be taken for credit after SPAN 2100. Prerequisite: SPAN 1100 or equivalent. This Elementary Spanish I would give you the basics of Spanish language as well as the proficiency level that is required to move to SPAN2100. Our Service-Learning component is a partnership with Addison Central School District and Champlain Valley School District, where students learning Spanish at UVM can create a video for K-12 kids, based on Indigenous and Afro Hispanic tales. Hispanic Tales project will offer a VIRTUAL LIBRARY to School Boards teaching Spanish for Kids in Vermont. Our Elementary Spanish levels will introduce UVM students to Hispanic cultures, not only learning the language, but designing a final project of a video for K-12 students. Hispanic tales project will require a preselection reading, which will take place on Thursdays, and you can work on your project remotely those days. Your remote work is to interpret what the tale wants to communicate and improve your reading in Spanish, empowering cultural awareness about Indigenous and Afro Hispanic communities.
