Section Description
CALS 2830: Communication Methods adopts an audience-oriented approach to public communication. Over the course of the semester, we will explore multiple strategies for developing dynamic extemporaneous speaking skills that are capable of being adapted to the necessities of the audience and the occasion for speaking in any given context. Moreover, Communication Methods links public communication concepts to their roots in civic and democratic behavior. Ultimately, the course is designed to provide students with strategies and tactics for building bonds of identification with a wide-array of audiences through logical, emotional, and credibility appeals. Traditional notions of informative and persuasive speech are replaced with alternative formats in order to better emphasize the importance of audience and occasion in the invention and delivery of public communication.
