Section Description

This class will examine sport as a social institution, emphasizing interrelationships between sport and the social context in which it exists; analyzes functions and dysfunctions of sport in contemporary society. This class will cover the following topics : History of Sport, Youth Sports, Gender Equity in Sports, Race and Sports, College Athletics and Professional Sports This course will explore the relationship between sport and our society. Students in this course will e given the opportunity to discuss we will cover the history of sport and its impact on society. This class will also explore the following topics on how sports have impacted race, gender equity, financial impact of professional sports on communities and today’s impact of college sports.

Section Expectation

This is an online asynchronous class. All course work will need to be completed by August 9th. Course Materials: There is not a book for this class. All materials will be provided.

Evaluation

Grading: 30% Class assignments 30 % 2 papers 40% Final paper *LATE WORK ANY assignment turned in late without professor permission will be penalized as follows : o 10% of original grade per day  1 day late =9/10 maximum score, 2 days late = 8/10, etc o After 4 days you will receive a zero on the assignment o Work that is not turned in may NOT be made up. Period
