Section Description
An introduction to the history of cinema, from its inception until 1945. We will read about and discuss the aesthetic, theoretical, technological, social, and economic considerations that characterize this cinema. The objective of the course is to (1) provide an understanding of cinema history, highlighting what established film as we know it today; and (2) develop skills in film analysis, based on an understanding of aesthetic, theoretical, and technological elements, as developed during the era we are covering.
