About SPAN 2100 OL1

Significant review of grammar, moving toward increased proficiency in composition, listening comprehension, pronunciation, speaking, reading, and writing. Emphasis on cultural context. Compositions, oral practice, reading. Students may take 1 Spanish course numbered between 2100 and 2109 for credit. Cannot be taken for credit after SPAN 2200. Prerequisites: SPAN 1200 or equivalent.

Section Description

Spanish 051 is designed to integrate the knowledge attained in the beginning level. In addition to reviewing key grammar points, we will gain practice in developing comprehension strategies through the study of short literary works, film clips and media dealing with current events in the Spanish-speaking world. The primary function of these authentic texts will be to expand the awareness of the diverse identities that form part of the Hispanic World, as well as to allow a space for critical thinking in the target language.

Section Expectation

1. Compose and revise written assignments in present and past time frames with learned material while expressing personal opinions. 2. Summarize and discuss texts using critical reflection and cultural references. 3. Demonstrate an ability to converse about social and cultural topics with ease and confidence. 4. Indicate a comprehension of Spanish in personal and social contexts through verbal and written responses. 5. Recognize and discuss some of the major historical events and cultural aspects of the Spanish-Speaking World.
