Section Description

A technical theatre lab experience that provides the opportunity to learn and practice the construction and technical aspects of costuming, scenery, and lighting through hands-on production work. This course is designed to provide space and time for focused practical application of technical theatre skills. This includes learning and practicing construction vocabulary and skills as well as safely protocols and procedures for working in and around the various shops in the theatre.

Section Expectation

Students will complete approximately 40 total hours of work in one of the shop areas (costume, scenery, or lighting). All hours will be completed in one area. Shop areas will be assigned by instructor prior to the first week of the semester. Student preference will be considered during assignments, but area of preference cannot be guaranteed. Students taking the class as a major or minor requirement will be assigned an area first. This is a hands-on experience based on the current needs of the production and the shops. This may include work calls for strike or other production needs outside of the scheduled lab times. This course will meet once a week for a 2.75 hour lab. All labs will meet on M, T, and TH from 2:15pm - 5:00pm.

Evaluation

Students will be evaluated on the completion of lab hours and production work. - Successful completion of lab hours/production work will be graded on: • Attendance and Participation. • Cooperation and Teamwork. • A positive and collaborative attitude. • Effort and application of skills and concepts.
