Course reviews the history of, and managerial challenges inherent to, the non-profit sector in the United States and explores sector's relationship to the governmental and business sectors.

Section Description
This class is a broad overview of the nonprofit sector in the United States. We will focus on aspects of the nonprofit sector each week, including an exploration of public policy, the history of the nonprofit workforce, and philanthropy as well as the basics of nonprofit management – strategic planning, fundraising, board development, and strategies for sustainability.
Section Expectation
This course combines lecture and discussion formats as well as guest speakers. Students should expect to spend 6-8 hours a week on coursework outside of class as well as additional time for course project(s).
Evaluation
Grades are based on attendance and participation, assignments, exam(s), and project(s).
