About MATH 4344 A
Capstone course that includes a final project. An introduction to point set topology. Topics include open and closed sets, continuous functions, compactness, connectedness, metric and Hausdorff spaces. Provides a background for analysis and graduate topology courses as well as for topological data science. Prerequisites: MATH 2055 or CS 1640; MATH 2248, MATH 2522, or MATH 2544; one 3-credit course in WIL1.

Section Description
The course provides a background for analysis and graduate topology courses as well as for topological data science. Topics include open and closed sets, continuous functions, compactness, connectedness, metric, and separability. The course will introduce some set theory to get the student comfortable with working within a theoretical framework. Prerequisites: MATH 2055; The first part of the course will be spent on defining different topological spaces. The second part will focus on the main properties of topological spaces: connectedness, compactness, and separability.
Section Expectation
Upon completion of MATH 4344 Topology, students will be able to: ￮ list and summarize the main properties of topological spaces: continuity, connectedness, separability ￮ being able to prove statements independently ￮ Give examples and counter examples of properties presented in class
Evaluation
You will be required to submit the homework and present a final project of your choice on an argument relevant to the subject matter.
